Why Nano ID
Nano ID trades UUID's fixed 36-character, hyphenated format for a shorter, URL-safe string with a size and alphabet you choose — useful for compact public identifiers.
Generate compact, URL-safe Nano IDs with a configurable size and alphabet directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Nano ID trades UUID's fixed 36-character, hyphenated format for a shorter, URL-safe string with a size and alphabet you choose — useful for compact public identifiers.
A larger size or alphabet increases the ID space; the default 21 characters over a 64-character alphabet has a comparable collision probability to a v4 UUID at realistic volumes.
Nano ID carries no embedded timestamp or metadata — like UUID v4, it is pure randomness.
